The direct answer

Which cake box is right for your product?

Studio FYUL manufactures custom printed cake boxes in folding, window, tall, rigid premium and cupcake formats. The right choice depends on the cake board, decorated height, packed weight, storage conditions and the way the customer receives it. We discuss these details before confirming materials and commercial terms.

Choose your format

Choose the box around the cake.

01

Regular folding cake boxes

A practical starting point for everyday bakery packaging. Discuss the assembly method, closure and usable internal size around your cake board. Confirm whether the selected construction will be supplied flat or assembled and how much storage space it needs.

02

Window cake boxes

For showing the product through a planned opening. Window placement should leave enough room for branding and suit the structure. The clear material, attachment and intended storage conditions need to be part of the specification.

03

Tall cake boxes

For cakes with extra height, toppers or decoration. Plan internal clearance, the opening method and how the packed cake will be lifted. Share the actual decorated dimensions and weight; cake weight alone does not define the correct box size.

04

Rigid premium cake boxes

For a more formed presentation suited to gifting and special occasions. Discuss the base, lid, opening and finish around the real product. A premium exterior still needs practical packing clearance and a material specification appropriate to the intended use.

05

Cupcake boxes

Plan the count, cupcake diameter, topping height and insert arrangement together. The insert should help position the cupcakes while allowing comfortable removal. Different cup sizes may need different openings even when the outer box looks similar.

Dimensions that matter

Start with the cake board. Add the full decorated height.

The cake board usually defines the footprint that the box needs to accommodate. Measure its full length and width or diameter, then measure the finished cake including decoration. Record the packed weight as a separate detail. A weight such as 500 g or 1 kg does not tell us enough about shape or height.

For a tall cake, check how it enters and leaves the box. A lid that clears the decoration is useful only if packing can also happen without touching delicate work. Discuss the opening method and any parts that need to fold away during placement.

For cupcakes, provide the actual cup diameter, topping height and count. Insert openings should support the intended arrangement and allow removal. If several products share one box, explain the different sizes so the team can assess whether one insert layout is practical.

A closer look

The inside matters as much as the printed lid.

Food-contact and storage requirements are discussed for the specific project. Tell us whether the product sits on a separate cake board, which surfaces may touch food and whether grease or moisture could reach the box. The board, lining, window and finishes should be considered together.

If the packed cake will be refrigerated, describe the storage and handover process before materials are selected. Condensation and changing conditions can affect different constructions. Do not treat a decorative reference image as evidence of suitability for cold storage.

A box also needs to work with your handling method. Share whether customers collect from a counter, your team delivers locally or the product travels in another carrier. The outer packaging does not replace appropriate support for a heavy or tiered cake. Any sample assessment should reflect the way the finished product will actually be packed and moved.

A closer look

Make the bakery recognisable at the handover.

Custom printed cake boxes can carry your logo, colour palette and artwork without covering every surface. Start with the most useful view: the lid on a counter, the front during handover or the side when stacked. Keep the design clear around windows, folds and closures.

A matching paper bag can extend the same visual style while making the box easier to carry. Finalise the box dimensions before setting the bag width and gusset. Discuss colour references across both materials, because an identical digital colour can print differently on different surfaces.

For a multi-size range, adjust artwork placement carefully instead of simply enlarging every element. The smallest box still needs readable branding, while the largest does not need an oversized logo. See our custom printed paper bags for matching options.

What types of custom cake boxes does Studio FYUL make?

Studio FYUL manufactures regular folding cake boxes, window cake boxes, tall cake boxes, rigid premium cake boxes and cupcake boxes. The construction is selected around the product, cake board, decoration height, packed weight and presentation. Logo printing and custom dimensions can be discussed across these formats. Share your existing box or a reference, quantity and intended use so the team can recommend a practical specification rather than selecting only by appearance.

How do I choose the correct cake box size?

Measure the cake board first, then the complete height of the decorated cake. Include toppers, flowers and decorations that project beyond the cake itself. The box needs usable internal clearance without leaving excessive room for the board to move. A cake described by weight alone is not enough to select the box: recipes, shapes and decoration can change its dimensions considerably. Share actual measurements and the packed weight when requesting a custom size.

Can you make boxes for tall or tiered cakes?

Yes, tall cake boxes are part of the range. The right height depends on the complete decorated cake, not just the sponge layers. Discuss how the cake will be placed inside, how the box opens and how it will be lifted. Tiered cakes may also need their own internal structural support, which the outer box does not replace. Share the full dimensions, cake board, total weight and transport conditions before the construction is confirmed.

What is the difference between folding and rigid cake boxes?

Folding boxes are made from a cut and creased structure that is assembled for use; their supply format and assembly method should be agreed. Rigid boxes have a more formed structure and can suit premium presentation. The decision affects storage space, handling, production steps and cost. Neither format is automatically the best for every cake. Compare how your team will pack, store and hand over the product as well as how the finished packaging looks.

Can a cake box have a transparent window?

Yes, window cake boxes can be discussed with the window size, shape and position planned around the product. A window can help show the cake, but it also changes the construction and the area available for printing. The window material and intended conditions need to be confirmed as part of the specification. Do not assume that a large opening or a particular clear material is suitable for every box size, handling method or storage environment.

Can cupcake boxes include inserts?

Cupcake boxes can be planned with an insert arrangement around the number and dimensions of the cupcakes. Share the cup diameter, overall height, topping clearance and intended count per box. A loose insert may allow movement, while an overly tight opening can make removal awkward. Ask to review the proposed fit before bulk production. If the same box needs to carry different cupcake sizes, discuss that variation at the start rather than after the insert is finalised.

Can you print our bakery logo and brand colours?

Yes, cake boxes can be customised with bakery branding, artwork and suitable finishes. Provide a clear logo file, colour reference and the text that should appear on the pack. Keep important details away from folds, closures and window edges. Colours can vary between materials and printing methods, so the approval process matters. Studio FYUL will discuss the artwork and selected construction before confirming the final print specification.

Are all cake-box materials suitable for direct food contact?

Food-contact suitability must be discussed and confirmed for the intended use. The board, lining, cake board, window, inks, adhesives and any area that could touch food all need consideration. Tell the team whether the cake sits on a separate board and whether grease or moisture may reach the packaging. We do not publish a blanket certification or food-grade claim for every construction. The appropriate material specification is confirmed through the project discussion.

Can the cake boxes go into a refrigerator?

Refrigeration requirements must be discussed before ordering. Cold storage, condensation and the time spent outside the refrigerator can affect paperboard, finishes and windows differently. Share the storage temperature range you use, approximate duration and handling process. Ask for the proposed construction to be assessed for those conditions. A box made for a dry counter display should not be assumed to perform identically in a refrigerated bakery workflow.

Do cake boxes need a separate cake board?

The packaging should be planned around the board or other support used for the cake. A cake board helps define the footprint and how the product is handled, but its material and suitability should be confirmed separately. The outer box is not a substitute for internal support for a heavy or tiered cake. Tell Studio FYUL whether the board is already selected and provide its actual dimensions, including any projecting edge or handle.

Can I use one cake box size for several cake weights?

Possibly, if the finished board dimensions, cake height and packed weight work within one approved construction. Cake weight is not a standard physical size: a half-kilogram cake can be tall and narrow or shorter and wider. Using one oversized box for everything may also allow unwanted movement. List the actual dimensions of your main products and discuss whether a small coordinated size range would be more practical than one universal box.

Can you make luxury cake packaging for gifting?

Yes, rigid premium cake boxes can be discussed for gifting and special occasions. The design may include a selected paper, brand colour and appropriate finish, but the opening, support and handling remain essential. Share whether the box is for a single cake, a dessert assortment or a coordinated gifting set. The team will need to review the dimensions, use and material requirements before confirming the final construction and commercial details.

Can matching paper bags be supplied with cake boxes?

Yes, a matching paper bag can be discussed as part of the packaging set. The bag should be sized around the finished box, including enough usable gusset depth to keep it level. Packed weight, handle comfort and base reinforcement should be considered together. Approve the fit of the box and bag as one set, and confirm colour references across the different materials. A coordinated design should also be comfortable for the customer to carry.

What are the MOQ and production time for custom cake boxes?

There is no single published MOQ or production timeline for every cake box. Size, construction, material availability, quantity, printing, windows, inserts, finishing and approval steps affect what is practical. Share your quantity and required date at the start. Studio FYUL will discuss the requirement and confirm the commercial terms and schedule after the specification is understood. Include delivery time in the discussion rather than treating dispatch and arrival as the same date.

How can I get a quotation for branded cake boxes?

Send the box style or a reference photo, cake board dimensions, decorated height, packed weight, quantity per size, logo or artwork and delivery location. Explain any refrigeration, grease, moisture or food-contact requirements. If you have an existing sample, share it or clear photographs of the opening and base. The team can then discuss the construction, approval steps, pricing and timeline. A conversation is needed before a reliable final quotation can be given.
